Garland L. and his wife Leita M. Shields, purchased in November
1963 the Peter Jerome farm located between highway 29 and east end of Lake
Miltona for the special purpose of building a golf course. With the help
of their family construction was completed and Lake Miltona Golf Club was opened
for play the summer of 1965. The clubhouse on highway 29 was completed in
1968. Garland & Leita owned and operated the course until they sold it to their son and daughter in law in 1976.
Robert and Jean Shields were the owners/operators for a 20-year period.
Together with their children Jon and Jennie, the Shields provided a well
maintained nine hole golf course. A automatic irrigation system was installed in
1987, a new green was constructed for a par 3 and an addition was added to the
clubhouse. Robert spent his time on the course while Jean took care of
operations inside the clubhouse.
In the spring of 1996 a sale was complete to Tom and Patti Blank
for the nine hole golf course and the additional 70 acres south of County Road
5. Since 1996, the golf course has seen constant improvements; a tunnel under
county road 5 was constructed in 1999 to allow access to the existing course
from the new location of the clubhouse. In the winter of 1999 a 3,200 square
foot clubhouse with food and beverage availability that was built and opened in
June of 2000. |

Construction on the new front nine began in 2001 and Lake Miltona Golf
Club became an 18-hole golf course in June of 2002. Land was purchased north of
the original nine holes in 2003 and began working on designs for a complete
renovation of the original nine holes. This would provide larger greens,
multiple tees, sand bunkers and concrete golf car paths from green to tees.
The three-phase renovation process was designed to minimize course
interference and limit the exposure to erosion from the earthwork. Along with
this renovation came the development of townhomes and single-family dwellings on
the golf course. In the summer of 2007 phase I was started and completed on the
acquired land north of the original golf course. In September of 2007 phase II
was started and in mid October was dormant seeded for the spring of 2008. On
August 9, 2008 we open the new holes on the back nine this completed phase 2 of
this project. The back nine is a par 36 with 3 par 3's, 3 par 4's and 3
par 5's. The third phase will begin when we have all the little
unfinished projected completed.
Entrance Sign is finished and unveiled was unveiled on Sunday September
4, 2011. Lots of compliments and a special thank you to John Weber for his
hard work in constructing and donating this new enhancement to our "curb
appeal"! Look for it to be light up in the next couple of weeks.
